A multinational pharmaceutical company sought Armstrong Craven's help to fill crucial roles in Oncology after struggling with talent acquisition internally due to limited resources and identified candidates.

Background & Scope

Our client, a multinational pharmaceutical business, was focused upon realizing the full potential of the company's position on the Oncology world stage. In order to achieve this, they needed to fill two key roles with the best available talent in the market.

When the company first approached Armstrong Craven about these key appointments, they had already tried to fill the positions themselves identifying 25 potential candidates. Their Talent Acquisition and HR departments were already at full capacity and needed our expertise for these crucial roles.


The Need

Following a recent restructure and a focus on Oncology in the US, the client was seeking to hire two Franchise Heads (one for Hematology and the other for Solid Tumor). Our client required marketers with experience in the specific therapy areas and excellent leadership and charisma in order to really excel in the role(s). They would also need to have the track record as well as relationships with agencies, key opinion leaders, and medical professionals. 

Although the client was familiar with Armstrong Craven for Mapping and Pipelining projects, they had not yet utilized our complete Executive Search service and these positions needed to be filled promptly without compromising on quality. They were open to switching from their regular Executive Search provider, viewing working with Armstrong Craven as a more efficient and cost-effective alternative and who already has a strong track record of working with the client on other service lines. 


Our Approach

Our Executive Search service is designed to target highly qualified individuals for senior-level and executive roles within various sectors, proactively reaching out to eligible candidates. The process involves detailed research, comprehensive candidate evaluations, and high-touch candidate management to secure individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge.

When Armstrong Craven was appointed to lead this full Executive Search project, the approach was to focus on research. If the research was comprehensive then we could feed back to the client on the landscape of the market and, if we did find challenges, what the insights were that came to light. The candidate referencing process was also to be undertaken by Armstrong Craven and was undertaken successfully and smoothly in the late stages, ensuring it was in-depth and comprehensive.
 

The Outcome

  • We routinely shared the insight that led to the client’s decision to amalgamate one role and hire one person to cover the 2 roles.
  • The client now owns the talent map, from which they could make additional hires free of charge.
  • Within 3 months the new VP Head of Marketing was offered and accepted.

Our client had a cost saving of $122,900 against traditional search fees.
